Searching for a Smudgeproof Eyeliner

I haven’t worn eyeliner on my waterline, or lower inner rim of my eye, lately because I just can’t find one that stays put.  But since we know it’s important to persevere through difficult times, I picked up three new eyeliners to test last week at Ulta.  Here’s what I thought of them (Uncle John, aren’t you glad you decided to subscribe to this blog via email?):

Front to back: Mally, Urban Decay, and Loreal eyeliners

Mally Beauty Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Eyeliner in Midnight, $18
This was a nicely pigmented classic black that was easy to apply – I didn’t have any trouble drawing a smooth, thin line above my upper lashes, where it stayed all day. However, only about half the product was left on my waterline at lunch, and it had completely disappeared by the time I got home at 9 pm.

Urban Decay Cosmetics 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Hustle, $20
I liked this eyeliner the most out of the three. The slightly metallic brown is perfect for everyday wear for all skin tones, although I might choose a deeper brown or black for nighttime. It didn’t last any longer than the Mally eyeliner on my waterline, but it was even creamier and easier to apply. According to the packaging, one of these guys is sold every 13 seconds, which actually could be true based on the number of positive reviews I read.  Urban Decay also makes a special waterliner pencil I might purchase in the future.

Loreal Infallible Silkissime Eyeliner in Plum, $8.99
I loved the deep purplish-black color of this eyeliner but probably won’t buy it again because it didn’t go on smoothly.  In general, I think higher-quality eyeliners are worth the investment.  This product did at least smudge easily so I could blend and soften it rather than having to start over on my upper lashline.

Finally, I read a tip as I prepared this post that I’ll have to try: using powder eyeshadow to set eyeliner on your waterline.  You use an eyeshadow brush to dust some on right after applying eyeliner.  Hopefully it works!

Have a great weekend.
