March Birchbox Review

Goood morning!  I somehow walked into work today with freshly melted chocolate on the knee of my pants despite drinking a smoothie for breakfast, if anyone’s wondering how mine went.  Or just read on for my monthly Birchbox review…

Pinrose Garden Gangster and Tambourine Dreamer | $55 each

These two scents were very different, but both lasted all day.  I liked the Garden Gangster, which had strong notes of orange, more than the floral Tambourine Dreamer.  The former reminded me of Hermes’ Eau Des Merveilles fragrance, one of my all-time favorites, with its slightly sea-breezy scent.  Since the Pinrose is half the price, maybe I’ll make the switch!

Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow | $28

This provided nice coverage and the universal shade matched my skin tone well, but I’m still partial to the Erborian BB cream I wrote about in this post on my five-minute makeup routine.  The consistency of the Marcelle was too thick and goopy; it took the same amount of time to apply as regular liquid foundation when I usually look to BB creams to save me a a few minutes in the morning.

Cargo Land Down Under Eye Shadow Palette | $34

These sparkly eye shadows would be great for a night out; they’re a little much for daytime.  I probably won’t buy the full-size product since I’ve been using the Urban Decay Naked palette for a while and think it’s a great value with so many different, combinable (I don’t know if that’s a word but we use it at work) neutral shades, but I’m sure I’ll use the rest of the sample at some point.

White & Elm Rosehip & Argan Antioxidant Serum | $28

This serum, which promised to hydrate, soften, and even skin tone, didn’t quite work for me.  It sat on my skin instead of absorbing; I might use it in extremely cold, dry conditions, but not every day.  I’ll probably use the remainder of the sample to smooth the ends of my hair after straightening it.

COOLA SPF 30 Organic Makeup Setting Spray | $36

So, I was thinking of writing a post about beauty products you don’t need and putting makeup setting spray on it.  In my experience, only a good primer applied before foundation helps it to stay put.  This spray actually seemed to keep my face more matte throughout the day, though – I didn’t find myself pulling out a blotting paper in the afternoon when I sometimes need one.  And it’s super lightweight, which would make it a great product to add to your routine if your makeup doesn’t already contain sunscreen.
