Although you may no longer have the time to wait for a package in the mail, you can still deliver these thoughtful last-minute Valentine’s Day gifts for the holiday.
Hey guys! How was your weekend? Adam and I laid low on Saturday but tried stand-up paddle boarding for the first time yesterday. We didn’t have a hard time keeping our balance – the boards are much sturdier than than surfboards, which is how I imagined them – but the going is slower than on a kayak.
We don’t have big plans for Valentine’s Day, although I did put the Jet’s ad for their Perfect Couple Combo on our fridge when it arrived, folded and warm, in our Super Bowl order last week. Can’t wait for our heart-shaped pizza and cheesy bread.
It took me about 50 years to eventually think of a small present for Adam, which is why I put together this ‘truly last-minute’ Valentine’s Day gift guide. At this point, you may not have time to visit a specialty store or wait for a package in the mail, but you can still have a thoughtful gift ready for your significant other or friend. Read on for a list of ideas – many of them will work for either gender! Continue reading →
My step-by-step routine for an easy, inexpensive at-home manicure that looks great.
Good morning, friends – how are you? The beginning of this week wasn’t exactly productive around here, but yesterday was better. As it turns out, starting at the bottom in a new field takes a lot more energy and grit (not that I’ve actually shown grit) than working a job you know intimately. So today, I’m taking a break to talk manicures. 🙂
Of all the things I manage to justify purchasing, manicures and pedicures rarely make the list. I chip nail polish with record speed, and I’d much rather sit in my recliner than go out and make small talk. If you, too, are apparently an old man, read on for an inexpensive at-home manicure routine.
Whether you’re new to Columbus or just happen to be visiting, I hope this lineup of my favorite places to eat, exercise, and play helps you make the most of your time in the city!
Good morning and thanks for stopping by the blog today! Did you have a nice Christmas? Adam and I spent Christmas Eve with his grandma in Venice, Florida, then I flew home to Michigan yesterday morning. I’m here for the rest of the week and looking forward to the extended break from work (assuming I can keep from obsessively checking emails) and heading to Traverse City with family friends for the New Year.
By the time I return to the office, I’ll have just three work trips to Columbus remaining. I would say it hasn’t sunk in yet, but I’ve put in my notice, prepared to leave, and then been asked to stay on longer twice now, so. In any case, I developed a fondness for this city with its tree-lined cobblestone streets and airport where you magically never have to wait in line. So for today’s post, I’ve gathered a collection of great spots for eating, drinking, and recreation in Columbus.
Good morning! How was your weekend? I didn’t get up to much – it rained buckets here, which was the excuse I needed to spend my Saturday and Sunday reading and watching the Olympics. Hopefully the recent humidity will break as the rain stops – I got out of my car at work on Thursday to the air pressing in on me and a million cicadas buzzing in the tall trees that surround our campus, and it sort of felt like the apocalypse was coming. Or maybe I just wished it was so that I wouldn’t have to work.
Anyway, today I’m sharing a quick review of the Tresemme Beauty Full Volume Reverse System shampoo and conditioner. The goal of reverse washing, or using conditioner on your hair before shampoo, is to increase volume while still keeping strands healthy and smooth. There are other, more expensive systems on the market, but Tresemme’s is the only drugstore version I know of.
Today’s post includes reviews of my favorite sea salt sprays, as well as a trick for making scrunched curls or waves turn out great every time!
Happy Thursday! I hope everyone’s surviving the heat. They keep it nice and frigid in our office, so I’ve been managing my wardrobe for the fifty-degree temperature difference between my desk and the other side of the door I set ten feet from.
Anyway, boring complaint over. Do you guys ever use sea salt sprays? I wear my hair wavy more often in this kind of humidity since the effort to straighten it often goes to waste. In the past I always held my waves with some kind of gel, but I’ve been spritzing on sea salt spray lately instead. I love the more natural look it offers.
Hello, hello! How was your weekend? Mine was full of various errands and a little soccer (literally a little, because my team in a tournament at work lost our first two games in a double-elimination setup. But I did “forget” to put sunscreen on my face, so I at least got some color).
Today, since I mostly review newer beauty/skincare/hair products on the blog, I thought it would be fun to share the ones I’ve used for years and keep returning to even as others come and go. Also, I have spent a lot of time hunched over my monitor at work like a gremlin as of late, and nothing particularly unique came to mind for this post.
So, you guys. I have a confession. Actually, two confessions.
The first is that on Tuesday night I slept from 8:15 pm to 7:15 a.m. and then on Wednesday I ate a box of macaroni and cheese and a giant bowl of ice cream AFTER I had already stopped at Panera for dinner on the way home, so I couldn’t finish more than two posts this week. I just had to lay down. Three straight weekends out of town have taken their toll, or at least that’s the excuse I’m claiming.
The other confession is that I didn’t teach myself how to wear lipstick until like a month ago. My office is as casual as it gets, and so is the Columbus bar scene (not that I really get out), so I never had a reason to take the plunge. However, I had a wedding to attend a few weeks ago and really wanted to do a red lip for some reason, so I scoured the web for instructions while at work and did some practice at home. Here are five tips that will help you get started, too…
Hello hello! I didn’t mean to take a week off from the blog, but I was busy with work at the beginning of the week and then ended spending Thursday night in the ER with a ruptured ovarian cyst instead of finishing Friday’s post…
