Happy Thursday! How is your week going? I’ve been a little off for the last couple days, so I’m looking forward to happy hour with some friends tonight and then soaking up more nice weather this weekend. Anyway…follow the jump for my monthly Birchbox review!
So, I’ve never been the biggest fan of Burt’s Bees. I always felt like their lip balm actually dried my lips out more when I applied it, and several months ago I bought a shampoo that did not clean my hair at all. This lip balm was an improvement, though! It did provide a little moisture (although I wouldn’t depend on it exclusively during the winter), and the purplish tint was sheer and subtle.
This exfoliating face wash was super gentle yet still brightened my skin after a week of use. I don’t know if I’d pay $34 for a cleanser – especially one that’s meant to be used only a few times a week – but if I ever did, this would be the one I’d invest in!
This was my favorite sample in this month’s box (I always love trying new hair products because my hair is so much more cooperative than my skin 🙂 ). It added texture and long-lasting volume like a dry shampoo without the chalkiness. The packaging advertises a matte finish, which I’m not sure why you’d ever want for your hair, but I didn’t notice this effect.
I always like getting hand lotion samples to throw in my bag, and this one smelled just like a mix of green apples and tulips as advertised. However, it was a little greasy and didn’t fully moisturize the driest parts of my hands.
W3LL PEOPLE Expressionist Mascara | $23.50
W3LL PEOPLE makes all-natural cosmetics, which in the case of this mascara means there are no harsh chemicals or dyes in the formula. I liked that I didn’t notice any flaking or smudging throughout the day, but this did only a so-so job of amplifying my eyelashes, adding length but not much volume. I’d recommend it if you prefer organic makeup, but I’ve tried a number of more effective mascaras.
